The Competition

The competition was made up of 3 person teams, paired by a random drawing of registered shooters from the Albertville Police Department and Albertville Fire Department. Each shooter competed in 3 stages using pistol, rifle, and shotgun. To break a tie for the highest score, shooters competed head to head on a dueling tree using a pistol. Awards were presented to the team and individual with the highest score.

Stage 1

Pistol - “Around the World”

Shooters began the stage with 10 rounds of 9mm and engaged 8 steel targets. The targets were from left to right at 10, 15, 20, 25, 25, 20, 15, and 10 yards. Points were acquired for each target hit and the number of rounds remaining after hitting all targets. A total of 10 points per shooter was possible.

Stage 2

Rifle - “Out and Back”

Shooters began the stage with 10 rounds of .223 / 5.56 and engaged 8 steel targets. The targets were out to 100, 150, 200, and 250 yards and back from 250, 200, 150, and 100 yards. Points were acquired for each target hit and the number of rounds remaining after hitting all targets. A total of 10 points per shooter was possible.

Stage 3

Shotgun - “Let Them Fly”

Shooters began the stage with 10 rounds of 12 gauge and engaged 10 clay targets. The clay targets were thrown in the following order: single thrown right to left, single thrown left to right, double thrown right to left and left to right, and two sets of triple thrown left to right, right to left, and left to right. Points were acquired for each target hit. A total of 10 points per shooter was possible.

Tiebreaker

Dueling Tree

Each shooter began with 10 rounds of 9mm. Two shooters competed head to head shooting paddles on their side of the tree, flipping them to the opposing side. If a shooter fliped all six paddles at one time to the opposing side they won immediately or after the shooters had fired all 10 rounds, the shooter with the fewer number of paddles on their side won.

Chad Ginn with the Albertville Police Department and Grant Wood with the Albertville Fire Department went head to head on the dueling tree for the best individual score.
